In 2021, another INCT Nanocarbono colleague was awarded the L'Oreal -UNESCO-ABC Prize: Dr. Ingrid Barcelos from CNPEM-Campinas/SP. We gonna take the oportunity of this happy event to remember all our researchers awarded in previous editions of the award and learn a little about their careers.

Our Institute, the INCT Nanocarbono, is honored to have among its members 6 PhD researchers awarded with such an important award. Valmir's Doctoral Defense
On 10/08 we had Valmir's thesis defense! The work "Neutralization of organophosphate pesticides and analogues with imidazole derivatives: mechanistic elucidation in favor of chemical safety" supervised by Prof. Elisa and co-supervised by Prof. Alfredo was defended with excellence. The defense panel included Marcus Sá - UFSC, Josiel Domingos-UFSC, Márcio Peres de Araújo - UFPR and Paulo Zarbin-UFPR. This is the tenth defense of the GCC, Valmir joined the group in 2013 and was one of the first to be part of the GCC!

First integration event for project members
On May 14th, the I Workshop on Integration in Chemical Disasters organized by the GCC took place. The event integrated the members, students and collaborators of the project approved in the context of the Academic Cooperation Program in Public Security and Forensic Sciences, coordinated by Prof. Elisa Orth in cooperation with the Brazilian Federal Police. There were about 40 participants, 10 speakers and 4 hours of presentations and discussions.

On 05/06 we had another GCC defense! Yane Santos brilliantly defended its thesis, which was argued by the professors: Clascídia Furtado (CDTN), Maria Luiza Rocco (UFRJ), Marcela Oliveira (UTFPR) and Izabel Vidotti (UFPR). The work entitled " Funcionalização Seletiva e Bifuncional do Óxido de Grafeno: Projeção de Nanocatalisadores para Organofosforados" was supervised by Prof. Elisa Orth and co-supervised by Prof. Aldo Zarbin.

The latest GCC publication is a review article in Química Nova on the fascinating chemistry of imidazole!
The review entitled "IMIDAZOL E CATÁLISE: UM PAR PERFEITO" is the first GCC review article and is certainly a milestone for the group, as it synthesizes many of our interests with imidazole. Check the full article at DOI

New collaborative work!
First article of the GCC in collaboration with the BioPol-UFPR group led by Prof. Rilton Freitas who also had the participation of Prof. Sônia Zawadzki and doctoral candidate Cassiano Pires. The work is part of the thesis of Romelly Ramirez, supervised by Prof. Rilton. The GCC collaborated on the kinetic treatment of polymerization reactions. The article "DODAB-DOPE liposome surface coating using in-situ acrylic acid polymerization" was published in the Journal of Molecular Liquids. DOI
